Infertility Yoga

Infertility yoga can be a significant way of fighting infertility problem. It works both on relaxing your mind and body as well as on enhancing the reproductive capability. Yoga is an ancient method practiced for physical and mental well being and can be a powerful way of commiserating infertility and sexual problems.

Yoga brings a wonderful physical and mental synchronization relaxing both simultaneously. It works significantly on women who have blocked fallopian tubes, hormonal imbalances or other fertility problems. It also helps the aspiring mother to prepare psychologically for conception by relieving mental stresses.

The positions and exercises performed in infertility yoga may seem to be suitable only for women, which is not true as it can be performed by both partners and it would be rather better if both the partners are involved with the exercises jointly. The exercises are done mainly on the hips and pelvis area focusing the mind and the body by releasing all the tensions and relaxing throughout the exercise. The yoga also enhances the blood flow as well as maintains balance in the hormones.

Infertility yoga leaves a wonderful effect on hypothalamus and pituitary gland hormones by the increments of oxygen and blood flow to the brain where these two hormone glands are located. The improvement in the functions of these two glands is essential to enhance the fertility and the infertility yoga focuses on it.

Many couples remain confused whether they would be able to practice yoga exercises as they don't have any prior experience. But you don't necessarily need to be a yogi to do infertility yoga. But these positions imply very simple methods and you don't have to do anything beyond your limit. You will feel the flexibility as you go further practicing it.

The total expenditure involved in the infertility yoga practice might be another concern. I would recommend you to purchase a DVD that explains how to do the yoga positions, but apart from that, there's not much else you need to do. All you need is practicing it on a mat or rug, a quiet environment, and comfortable cloths while you practice. Yoga DVDs with detailed 'how to do it techniques' and with relaxing music are available in the market.

The primary aspect of yoga is breathing and it provides relaxation and improves the flow of oxygen into the body. Hence while practising yoga it is important that you breathe more intensely and gradually, and upholds the rhythm during the exercise as much as you can. It is important that you meditate yourself and focus on your whole body forgetting all tensions and relaxing especially your anus and the reproductive area.

Hopefully, this infertility yoga overview was useful to you. If you'd like to see more yoga positions to try out, along with a DVD that helpfully demonstrates infertility yoga positions, then check out this site: http://infertilityyoga.com/

Back Pain Motivation Part 2

With not just back pain, the actual mechanisms that make yoga so powerful are still being studied by the medical community, with more than 900 research papers listed by pubmed.org (a Service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of health). Traditional yoga texts teach that Hatha yoga provides its health benefits for the body and mind primarily through the combination of breathing (Pranayama), physical postures (asana) and meditation.

Bones and thighs are mainly occupied by Vata. Vata controls and directs the body movements. Back pain occurs when vata in this region gets aggravated due to unwise physical activities (mithya yoga of karma), exaggerated physical activities (Ati yoga of karma) or less physical activities (hina yoga of karma).

ARTHRITIS Motivational System. With daily exercise for the special needs of people who wish to exercise daily for back pain relief and ease of movement. AQUA YOGA The density and resistance of water provide an ideal environment for relieving the mental and physical stress of everyday life. This well-rounded class is especially helpful for anyone wishing an active, motivational system of exercise supported by water buoyancy.

"Yoga is also very special in the way it helps to improve energy levels throughout the practice. A yoga practice should work your body and fitness, but at the same time a well-designed yoga practice should boost your energy levels so that you actually feel better and more refreshed after yoga practice where other types or physical exercise leave you fatigued.

Why are doctors referring their patients, who have chronic back pain, to Yoga classes? How many studies have been conducted on back pain and Yoga? Is Yoga a "cure all" for back pain? What kind of Yoga class is best for back pain?

"Yoga has been developed over many hundreds of years and is very closely bound to Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medical philosophies called. In the simplest terms Ayurveda has 2 key concepts of Prana or life force and Nadis or energy channels. Yoga is about learning to control Prana and clear Nadis for improved health.

YOGA FOR MS Body awareness, breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques are combined in every class. Floor and chair classes may be offered to help all levels of ability. Any body can do yoga, whether in a wheelchair or not, one is only limited by ones imagination.

The Benefits of Yoga and Meditation For Eating Disorders

As it has been proven that eating disorders can be just as mentally debilitating as physically. It is important to remember the importance of meditation. Meditation can help to reduce any negative thoughts or feelings you may have. While general meditation may give you a less-obvious result (usually your at-home meditation sessions) you can combine them with a more specifically targeted meditation practice. Which has been proven to be highly effective.

Remember when practicing yoga, most of the poses will work better when all exterior elements are left aside. Giving you the ability to concentrate and focus on the inner aspects of yourself, body mind and soul. Pay particular attention to your breathing and any inner sensations that you feel. Which will help to guide you to the state of calmness and elevate the awareness of ones self. This state will allow you to explore new concepts in your life, past the eating disorder. Enabling you to achieve goals that may have proved too difficult or problematic in the past.

Take care in being aware of your problems. Showing a strong and constant desire to change is the key to reducing the effects of these illnesses. Many doctors will push for an early adoption of a yoga practice. Which will help to make the patient more aware of the problem that they are having within their body and mind. Often leading to seeing progress much sooner, than trying to tread the long road alone.

Despite the ability to be great for everyone, including those who have encountered this difficult illness. It is important to remember that yoga is best used for prevention, rather than treatment. Yoga has a higher likelihood of success before bulimia or anorexia has taken full hold on someone's body. As with many illnesses, the people who suffer from them will go through a denial stage. Which can often times aggravate the condition, making it much harder for yoga to help them through their time of need. Simply because prevention is easier than the elimination of an illness from it's full onset. However, your doctor may still suggest yoga throughout the treatment process of severe eating disorders that have taken full-hold.

It is important to remember that yoga isn't a cure in of itself. Instead should be used as a tool to help with any medical attention you might be receiving. It is a means of gaining back what you might have lost mentally and physically.

The three popular types of yoga you may have heard of are hatha yoga, power yoga and bikram yoga. Hatha yoga is the style of yoga most practiced today. It is what you will think of when you think of yoga in general. Power yoga is a more aerobic-style yoga, with an emphasis on cardio. Bikram yoga is a style of yoga performed in a heated room to accelerate detoxification. Universal Yoga sells everything you need to practice these and other forms of yoga, pilates and meditation including cropped yoga pants, yoga clothes, workout clothing, meditation cushions, yoga bags, uplifting apparel, spiritual jewelry, and yoga DVDs.

Yoga Breathing Techniques - 5 Ujjayi Pranayama Steps For Curing Insomnia

If there's one medical condition which can seemingly strike anyone at anytime, that is none other than insomnia. This common sleep disorder can have psychological, physiological, environmental and medical reasons. Now, if you are one of the millions of people who are suffering from this condition, did you know that there is a type of yoga which can help cure it?

The key is to learn about the breathing techniques involved in the Ujjayi Pranayama - a style of yoga which is also called ocean breath, hissing breath and victorious breath. Ujjayi literally means rising victoriously. When you practice this style, you can use the techniques to cure any sleeping disorders that you may have.

5 Steps to Develop a Breathing Technique

To help you out, here are the five steps that you need to follow if you want to develop a technique based from Ujjayi Pranayama yoga - which should help cure you of insomnia:

  1. Begin the yogic breathing technique by taking five long, deep and slow breaths. This should help in the relaxation phase.
  2. If you are using the Ujjayi Pranayama steps to specifically cure insomnia, close your eyes during the exercise.
  3. Next, try to constrict your throat muscles. At this point, it would help if you will visualize that you are breathing through a hold in your throat. This type of yogic exercise is also known as 'ocean breath' because of the sound that will be made by the air passing through your throat. The point of this step in the exercise is to breathe through your throat instead of through your nose.
  4. Find a nice, slow and relaxing rhythm as you continue with this style. Imagine that you are in a peaceful, calm beach with only the sound of the surf as your companion.
  5. Continue with this exercise until you relax completely and fall asleep eventually.

As you can see, the steps involved in this breathing exercise are quite easy. The good thing about using the Ujjayi Pranayama techniques is that it will produce health benefits like lowering your blood pressure and ultimately relaxing you once you go to bed and try to sleep. As your body regains its equilibrium, your mind will also calm down and you can emerge successful in the fight against the sleeping disorder which is insomnia.

Yoga and the Heart

Going within--exploring the hidden chambers of the heart to find one's true Self--is really the first step in yoga. Continuing from that step, we can take the next one: bringing forth the latent divinity that we discover within, so that we may fully serve our individual dharma, or life purpose.

Although I began watching my parents practice with B.K.S. Iyengar when I was three, and joined them at age seven, it took me years to fully absorb this basic lesson. For the first 13 years of my yoga practice, my effort was directed at physically mastering pose after ever more difficult pose. In my late teens, I often practiced seven hours a day, many days in a row. Staying half an hour in Headstand and an hour in Shoulderstand would leave my neck so stiff that I could not even turn it the next day! In some sessions, I would perform 150 or so poses! By age 20, I had a repertoire of hundreds of poses, including high risk asanas rarely seen and almost never taught. I brought enormous energy to my practice, but it was more in service to my ambition and ego than to a higher and deeper purpose.

Then, helping a friend lift some crates, I ruptured two disks in my lower back. For what seemed like an eternity, I was unable to sit, stand, or walk without experiencing excruciating pain. When I could finally do asana again, I had to start from the beginning. The muscles around my pelvis, legs, and spine had seized up to protect my back, and I was stiffer than most beginners. This whole experience was a great lesson in humility, and it began the transformation of my asana practice to the much more heart-centered approach that is now the core of my teaching.

The second catalytic experience that transformed my practice was when my wife, Mirra, developed a critical illness. Three times I saw her almost die and be revived. I was once again forced to search for the deeper meanings of my life and the place my daily asana practice had in it. Watching the woman who mattered so much to me struggle for life made me question the haughty attachment I had to my body and the asanas it could do.

Assisted by the penetrating and often astonishing insights my wife had gained through her trials, I began to discover what was for me an entirely new approach to yoga practice, an approach that included yet transcended my old one. My teachers and several ancient texts had already introduced me to this kind of practice, but I suppose I was unable to heed their guidance until experience had softened my heart. And the heart was at the core of this new approach: the surrender of the brain to the heart as well as the lifting of the pelvic energy to the heart. My wife Mirra explained to me time and time again the importance of opening the heart center. Speaking from the depths of her own inner experience, she reminded me that it was the heart that held the secrets to self knowledge and the heart that was the portal to the universe within.

Now as I teach, I no longer ask students to make the performance of the postures their primary focus in yoga. Instead, I ask them to discover, explore, grasp, and then lift the awesome power of the pelvis into the heart center, giving the heart attention, energy, and nourishment. As they work in the poses, I also teach them techniques to help them enlist the intellectual, analytical abilities of the brain in the inner quest that takes place within the heart. For example, Revolved-Head-to-Knee Pose ("Parivrtta Janu Shirsasana") is an excellent way to learn this heart-centered approach, because performing the pose with elegance and openness requires you to discover and harbor the power inside the pelvis, to lift that power into the heart center, and to open the chest in a wide, resplendent expression of the heart's inner luminosity.

Yoga for Beginners: Stress Management Solutions

Yoga training gives us empowerment. Among the many powers we receive from regular Yoga practice is the power to say no. How often do you fill your plate with excessive obligations? Do you take on problems, which cannot be helped? We are not talking about getting away from your responsibilities. Some of us have a terrible time saying no to people who waste our time.

Here is an example: A co-worker has had the same problem, day in, day out, for years, and calls you on the telephone, about her problem, at your home. You have errands to run, for your family, but this co-worker spends the better part of an hour using you for a sounding board. You have given her advice, but she never listens because she is too busy complaining to consider listening to you or solving her problem.

Your Yoga teacher talks about mindfulness and loving kindness toward others all the time. What can you do? Do not pick up the phone or try to handle this persons problems. You have given this person advice and she refuses to listen.

Your Yoga teacher has discussed living in the moment. Your objective is to make positive changes, now, for a brighter future. You cannot do that, if you are listening to the same problem over and over again. What is the best course of action?

As Yoga practitioners, we should show loving kindness, mindfulness, and help others whenever it is possible, but we cannot help anyone who refuses to take responsibility for his or her life.

When you empathically listen to your friends, family, and associates - you are giving your time, and this is a form of Karma Yoga, but you cannot afford to absorb their stress. See negative energy for what it is. When a person is full of negative thought, and you cannot help, you will, most likely, absorb this energy in the form of stress.

Now, lets look at some other ways, in which, Yoga will help us with everyday stress. Consider your total health picture. What you eat and drink can also cause stress. Caffeine, which speeds the heart rate and shortens your breath, can be found in coffee, tea, soda, hot cocoa, and chocolate.

How fast do you eat? How much do you eat at one sitting? How much sleep do you get per night? All of these factors can be modified to manage your stress levels. Yoga teaches us that moderation is the key to good health. The results of steady Yoga practice will be reflected by living a less stressful lifestyle and making a change.

One last point to mention: Many of us worry about the future, causing us even more stress. Yoga practice teaches us to live in the present moment. The future has many variables, and we cannot see all of them. Preparation and pro-active behavior should be geared toward finding solutions, instead of worrying. It is normal to worry, but we all know it is a waste of time. How often do the things you worry about really happen?

Develop Psychic Powers Yoga

There are hundreds of yoga classes across the United States. Doctors agree that yoga is a great exercise for the body, but did you know it not only aids the spirit but also increases psychic abilities. Some of the great Yoga masters perform amazing feats that range from stopping their hearts and controlling their body to generating financial success and levitation.

According to the great Swami Vivekananda "The world is ready to give up its secrets if we only know how to knock, how to give it the necessary blow... There is no limit to the power of the human mind."

Before formal Yoga existed, there were sects that quested magical power. The munis or wonder workers knew the secrets of the gods. The developed this knowledge by remaining celibate, fasting and even drinking poison. They also developed supernatural powers known as tapas by holding their body in uncomfortable positions for extensive periods. Other methods of gaining the power included laying on a bed of nails or other torture that required discipline to maintain.

Eventually yoga consisted of sitting in a still and erect position. The yogi kept a strong focus on the tip of the nose and attempted complete control over the mind to bring it to the single point. They did not gain true respect until much later in time. Many of the religious community believed them to be mere magicians. Years of study and training changed the use and goal of the yoga. They found ways to master gravity and levitate, make events occur when they desired and master their body. All the training in breath control allowed the yoga to do the supernatural.

The training in breathing and meditation gives the yoga the ability to focus the mind and expand his consciousness. When this happens, the yogi begins to deal with the spirit world. While in the spirit world, the yogi finds that it holds the answers to all the questions in the universe. It gives the yogi the empowerment and enlightenment. The first step to all of this is relaxation, focus and desire.

Breathing, like the breath of fire, brings different resonance and harmonics to your system and allows it to work with the psychic body. The breathing changes the brain waves and increases the body's energy level. The use of mantras is another resonator to create a body mind link. It is said that the words don't matter as much as the sounds. It also aids in the important breathing and relaxation technique. By slowing the brain waves, it allows the mind to enter other dimensions.

The amazing part is none of the magical abilities is apparent in the individual until he trains to bring them to the forefront. Anyone with enough desire can succeed in controlling the mind and his environment and life. Yoga origins came from the desire of the practitioners to improve their life. It worked. In fact it worked so well that eventually it was only taught with a philosophy and spiritual guide that only allows you to continue to the advanced levels when he feels your ego won't attempt to use it for other than good.

Real Men and Yoga

If you have been to a yoga class recently, you may have wondered: Where are all the men? It is a surprise to see one or two men in a yoga class. The way the advertising industry has portrayed yoga, it is a wonder there is even one man in a class. Yoga is marketed towards women to sell everything from mattresses to yogurt to candles. It is always a woman seen rushing off to class in a chic outfit with matching accessories. The celebrities touting the greatness of yoga are usually women: Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. When Madison Avenue uses a picture of someone (a woman), the posture is always a ballet like super flexible out of reach for most mortals yoga posture. It is easy to understand a man's reluctance, or anyone's reluctance, to sign up for a class. But if you look behind all the salesmanship, the true picture of yoga emerges.

Yoga is a physical and mental discipline that improves flexibility and balance, increases strength, as well as calming and focusing the mind. In fact, the postures, breathing, and philosophy of yoga were designed by men, for men. In the 5,000 year history of yoga, it is only in the last 50 years that women began to study and attend yoga classes. In the last few years, as the news of the unsurpassed physical and mental benefits of yoga spreads, more men are reclaiming their space on the mat, and enjoying a yoga practice. These men have discovered: real men do yoga.

Two of these real men shared their reasons for beginning yoga, why they like it, and what advice they give to other men about yoga. Pete is in his early sixties and has just retired. He has been taking yoga classes for about a year now. Pete faithfully attends class once a week and has steadily progressed into an advanced class. Bob is in his early forties, and is the head of the health education department for a school district. He also coaches a hockey team and is active in many sports. He has been coming to mixed level yoga classes once a week now for almost 6 months.

Why did you decide to try a yoga class?

Pete: I decided to take yoga classes as a means of improving my Tai Chi. My first experience with yoga was a result of my Tai Chi classes. My teacher and I would first practice the form, then do sparing, using the Tai Chi postures for offensive or defensive moves. Typically, after beating each other up for an hour or more, we would do restorative yoga postures so we would have enough energy to drive home. We would also do a series of yoga positions for core strengthening, stretching and balance. When my Tai Chi teacher moved further into the city, and it became impractical for me to get to his classes, I decided to take my wife's suggestion (She has practiced yoga for 5 years and credits it with keeping the symptoms of her fibromyalgia at bay.) and take yoga classes.

Bob: I decided to do yoga because my chiropractor/physical therapist recommended it to me. I was probably going to see him 8x a year mostly for my neck. I played 4 sports in high school and 2 sports in college and still remain active in sports today. However, stretching was something I never took serious enough. My lack of flexibility can probably be attributed to this, and causes most of my aches and pains.

Do you feel yoga is helping you? In what way?
Pete: Yoga has helped me with my core strength, my flexibility and my balance. It has also helped in my breathing, and with my ability to look inward and be more meditative. In addition, since I am the only male in an advanced class of all females, it has also taught me humility.
Bob: Absolutely, I notice the difference every week. I really noticed when I missed 2 weeks how awful my body felt. This was the reason why I joined up again.
Would you recommend yoga classes to other men, your friends?

Pete: Yes I would, and yes I do.

Bob: I tell my friends all the time that I do yoga and I swear by it. Of course - you get that look when you tell a guy that you do yoga - it's that stereotype that it's a woman thing. I think most men don't know what yoga is all about. It helps me relax, improves flexibility (still have a long way to go), and if I wanted to focus on strength, it would help with that as well. I am always willing to try anything new. My chiropractor kept telling me you should try yoga - Finally after a year of him telling me this, I decided to give it a try. I haven't seen him since May.

What would you tell men specifically about yoga? Why they should take it, what it is like, etc...

Pete: I would first tell men that yoga is not just for women. I would also tell them that doing yoga will certainly make them better at any endeavor (sport or life activity) where they need core strength, flexibility or balance. If they doubted that yoga is for them I would say, wouldn't it be great to be able to reach into the dishwasher first thing in the morning without putting your hand on your knee for support.

Bob: It can help you relax if you have a long day at work. It definitely helps you improve your flexibility and core strength. You get what you want out of yoga - everyone in class is at a different level and has different reasons for taking the class. If young athletes realized how much they could improve their performance by increasing their flexibility and core strength, you would see more males taking yoga. Yoga and core strength training are closely related, and the emphasis in training athletes today is on the core. So, athletes are doing yoga moves in core building exercises, but not realizing its yoga.

Why do you think men seem a little reluctant to try yoga?

Pete: Most men think that yoga is just for women. I think this is in part because men do not realize the physical strength needed to do many of the asanas (the poses). In addition, more women do take yoga than men so it takes a pretty secure man to go into a yoga class that might be all females. Yoga is also very much about getting in touch with yourself, something that men are missing the gene for.

Bob: Guys won't buy into yoga until professional athletes and/or trainers start singing its praises. When an athlete like Tim Thomas (goalie for the Boston Bruins) comes out and credits yoga for his success, it opens people's eyes.

Pete: I think men would take a yoga class if it were presented as a sports yoga class, "improve your golf swing in five easy positions".

Ignore the hype, and listen to advice from two men who have improved their lives with a regular practice. Improve your golf, tennis, soccer, hockey or football game. Improve your physical and mental health. Give yoga a try. Take a class and discover for yourself why growing numbers of real men do yoga.

Choosing a Yoga Mat

If you are just starting out with yoga, you are probably thinking about purchasing a yoga mat. Now, you might think that there is not much to the these useful yoga accessories, and they are all pretty much the same. However, this could not be further from the truth. Anyone who has been practicing yoga for even a short amount of time can tell you that a good mat can make all the difference in the world, and it can actually be the difference between continuing to practice yoga for many years to come, and quitting after your first time. Below are a few tips to follow before purchasing your first yoga mat.

The first thing that you should consider before you go out and buy your first yoga mat is how comfortable it is. This is the most important thing to consider before you purchase your yoga mats. Some mats are made thicker than others, which should allow for a more comfortable feel when practicing yoga. If you have a very thin mat and you are on a hard floor, it will more than likely start to wear on your body, forcing you to either go out and purchase another new mat, or even worse, quit yoga all together.

Another thing that you might want to think about before you go and purchase is the size of the yoga mat. Now, there are two things to consider when it comes to the size of your mat. First you want to make sure that it is large enough so that you can comfortably perform yoga on it. But also, you will want to make sure that the mat is portable enough to comfortably carry it around. One thing to note, is that well made yoga mats, that are flexible can still be very portable even if they are large.

Something else that you will want to think about before you buy a yoga mat is the aesthetics, or how the mat looks. Some people do not really care about what their mat looks like, and obviously the looks are not as important as the functionality, but a yoga mat can have some personality if you want it to. There are countless different patterns, designs, colors and materials on yoga mats, so if you are looking for one that looks good, you should not have a hard time finding one.

To sum it all up, there are quite a few different aspects to look at before you purchase a yoga mat, above are just a few of the most important ones. If you search around and do a little bit of research, you should soon see that there is a wide variety out there to choose from, and it should not be all that difficult to find the right one for you. Just make sure you know what you want before you buy.

Robert has extensive knowledge on the yoga mat, and also provides information on various yoga accessories.

Colours And Chakras In The Human Body

Yoga is probably the only system that uses the physical body as a vehicle to reach the highest stage of spiritual consciousness. Yoga believes it is the spinal column that holds the secret path to knowledge and liberation. This is supposed to contain three nadis or channels called Ida, Pingala and Sushumna.

In an ordinary human being, the Sushumna is closed and only the Ida and Pingala, which correspond to the left and right nostrils, operate. He spinal cord has the following chakras or wheels situated over its length.

Modern physics the established that every colour has a certain frequency wavelength and energy associated with it. Therefore, the colour we absorb affects our nervous and endocrine system, and eventually the release of hormones and other organic substances within the human body.

Mooladhara Chakra: Root chakra at the base of the spine.

Swadishtana Chakra: Sexual chakra behind the sex organs.

Manipura Chakra: Personality chakra behind the solar plexus

Anahata Chakra: Heart chakra behind the heart.

Vishudda Chakra: Expressive chakra nears the throat.

Ajna Chakra: Knowledge chakra between the eyebrows.

Sahasrara Chakra: Crown chakra near the pituitary gland.

A chakra is believed to be an energy centre. There are seven chakras placed over the spinal column. These are subtle and cannot be seen through dissection. Yoga believes that the male and female parts o Cosmic Consciousness are present in every human being.

The female Cosmic Consciousness is called Kundalini or serpentine power', which is dormant in ordinary human beings and lies coiled at the base of the spinal column. The male part of Cosmic Consciousness is located at the crown chakra in sahasrara', which is at the top of the head.

More importantly, Reiki a popular form of treatment practised all over the world deals with therapy through Universal Life Force by supplying the same to chakras, which in turn are supposed to distribute it in the body.

Several other spiritual schools all over the world have also accepted the concept of chakras and believe that their purification can be achieved in various ways and once purified, meditation practices will help in spiritual progress.

While the physical body is connected to all the chakras and the defective chakras can induce disease as mentioned above, on the mental level also chakras have a remarkable influence and determine the behaviour, acceptance levels and the ay a person operates in society.

For example, when the root chakra is defective a person may suffer from physical ailments like improper evacuation, piles, fistula, constipation etc. The defective chakra also affects one at the mental level.

When the root chakra is defective, a person becomes aggressive and confused. His aggressive behaviour makes others keep away from him but the person himself is not aware that he is aggressive. The problem with such people is that even when somebody takes pains to explain what is wrong with their behaviour, they hardly understand this, as they are convinced their behaviour is normal.

When defective, the mental aspect of the sexual chakra results in mental withdrawal and creates phobias. Almost all phobias like fear of the dark, fear of being alone, fear of flying, fear of heights, fear of crowds, fear of water, fear of fire, etc, are due to malfunctioning of the chakra at the mental level.

The personality chakra also called the solar plexus chakra controls feelings of guilt and shame. When this chakra is defective, the person becomes over-anxious about himself and how society is reacting to him. He is cursed with greed and becomes envious. While taking any action he is always worried about how he is perceived by others and goes out of the way to impress others. Instead of living for himself, he tries to live for others.

The heart chakra interferes with the way a person reacts to people around him. Compassion, kindness, forgiveness and an attitude of give and take are all at the base of this chakra. When this is defective, it makes a person hateful and vengeful.

When the expression chakra or throat chakra is defective, it makes a person unreasonable. This type of person wants everyone to obey him unquestioningly. He becomes a hard taskmaster, but in the process loses the love and respect of others.

The knowledge chakra or ajna chakra is perhaps the most critical one. If this chakra is functioning properly, it will act as a divine guide in he sojourn of life. When this chakra is fully functional, man is completely aware of his activities and responsibilities in life. This chakra guides him in proper planning of life so that progress is continuous and hurdle-free.

Yoga apparel is available in a huge range of different fabrics: from cottons and synthetics to the more unique, such as hemp and bamboo. Yoga apparel is definitely not limited to just the studio anymore. Yoga clothes popularity makes sense, given that the clothing is so comfortable. Yoga clothing selection tips: comfort is always the main consideration. The clothing can be purchased from many retailers, including a huge selection online. In general yoga apparel does not specifically offer advantages over other types of athletic wear and students shouldn't feel obligated to spend a lot of money on designer-brands. There are many good lower price clothes that will suit you just fine.

Eco-Friendly Yoga Clothes

There are many companies offering eco-friendly and organic yoga apparel as well as the new technology enhanced microfiber yoga apparel which will help to wick sweat away from your body. When choosing your yoga clothing think comfort and moveability first. The basics of clothing for men include the same requirements as for women: comfort, flexibility and sometimes modesty. When it comes down to it, though, the clothes that you choose is a personal preference. As yoga gains in popularity because of its rejuvenating mind- body effects, the clothing and apparel popularity also increases - especially for its comfort and functionality. Because yoga students come in a myriad of shapes and sizes - you will find many choices. For quality discount yoga apparel have a look at the Danskin yoga collection, or something similar. When choosing your yoga apparel, look for specific pieces that really say something about who you are.

Yoga Pants

Yoga pants are usually made of a lightweight and stretchy material (such as rayon) that moves with your body. There's usually a drawstring waist, so that even if your weight fluctuates, your pants will still fit. Some pants also feature a wide elastic waistband for fit and comfort, so this is really a matter of taste. I prefer the drawstring over the elastic waistband as it gives me a little more room for comfort. Traditionally, colors are black and grey, but it is possible to find yoga pants in other colors. Many store are now offering pants in red, yellow, blue, green, pink and other colors. It's definitely not too uncommon to see people wearing their yoga pants, tops or shoes while running errands or even while hanging out with friends. Some students may prefer hemp pants because their pure, organic qualities which aligns with the wholesomeness of yoga.

Yoga Tops / Yoga Shirts

While yoga pants are often quite plain, tops provide an opportunity for yogis to express their personal style. Tops more frequently have patterns or designs, unlike pants. Yoga is more comfortable and more rewarding when you have the right clothing: tops are women's yoga apparel that are considered to be essential for the ultimate yoga experience. Like yoga pants, yoga tops are generally form-fitting and generally made of stretchy soft material. If you're busty, you may want to look for a yoga top with a built-in bra for added support - it will also help support you while performing difficult poses and is an excellent choice.

Practice Yoga For Managing Stress - Two Easy Yogic Techniques

Yoga clearly contains the oldest existing stress management techniques. Yoga teachers have absorbed the archives of "tried and true" stress reducing techniques, which date back thousands of years. Let's take a closer look at successful Yogic methods for stress management in today's busy world.

1. Recognize your thoughts, at this moment, for what they are. Most people go through life on auto-pilot. There is much thinking going on, but most of it is background mind chatter, with no definitive purpose, or direction. This is why you meet so many people that regret the past and have no idea what they want to do in the future.

If life is an aimless path, what do you do when you encounter a problem? Sadly, the common response is to worry about the past, future, and present. Yoga teaches us to manage the present moment. Why? You cannot change the past; and unless you take action right now, you will have no influence over the present.

The future also depends on your actions in the present. The time any of us spends worrying is a complete waste. Therefore, design logical solutions for the present. If you have difficulty finding solutions - get help, and advice, from the successful people you know. This will open your mind to solving, instead of worrying.

About thought recognition: Observe your thoughts and learn to sort them by priority and reality. Learn also to identify negative influences, which cause you to become stressed out, filled with anxiety, and cause internal states of panic. This identification process is important, because it will change your life for the best and it leads toward your second stress reduction technique.

2. Be realistic about your limitations. Some people believe they have no control over anything. They believe fate has control of our lives. Everything is carved in stone ahead of time, so there is no use in trying to improve anything. If all of us believed that, we would still be living in trees and caves. Since humans run slowly, tigers and crocodiles would not have to work hard for their meals.

We cannot move the earth, moon, and stars, yet. We cannot control weather, tidal waves, earthquakes, and floods, yet. Notice, I use the word "yet." Humankind has limitations, at the moment, but we really have no idea what our limitations are.

We do have control over many things. We especially have control over who we associate with. Our friends, colleagues, associates, and co-workers can be a positive or a negative influence. We also have control over whether to attend a Yoga class or watch bad news on television. We can censor negative influences.

We must seek out healthy relationships, in order to be healthy. Remember that stress is contagious. If you spend your free time with someone, who is experiencing chronic anxiety and panic, advise that person to seek professional counseling. If you spend too much time with that person, you may also have to seek professional counseling.

Yoga lessons, of all kinds, reduce stress levels. Activities, such as Yoga, are preventative mental and emotional health maintenance. We are only limited by our thinking. Yoga allows you to train your mind and find inner peace.

Yoga in Bed - Five Easy Yoga Postures You Can Do in Bed to Gently Wake You Up

If you are too busy, too tired and don't have the time to go to a yoga class why not spend a few minutes each morning, before you get out of bed and practice yoga in bed. The following five easy-to-do yoga exercises will help to mentally prepare you for the day, stretch your body and open your heart.

So, before you get out of bed, take five to ten minutes and practice this simple yoga routine.

Yoga in Bed Exercises

1. As you slowly wake, gently stretch out and lie on your back. Take a few rounds of deep breathing and gradually open your eyes.

2. Slowly sit up. Make sure your back is straight and supported. Raise your arms above your head and stretch your fingers out wide. Clench your hands, make a tight fist then stretch out your fingers.

3. Breathe in and interlink your hands. Slowly exhale as you stretch over to the right. Inhale and as you exhale return your body to the centre. Inhale and on the next exhalation stretch your body to the left. Repeat this stretch twice on either side.

4. Straighten both legs on the bed and practice 10 - 20 "windscreen wiper" motion with your feet. Relax and take 3 - 5 gentle breaths.

5. Lean forward from your hips and stretch the hamstrings with one knee bent and the other leg straight. Repeat on the other leg (it you have sore knees or if this feels uncomfortable, keep both legs straight and stretch forward)

6. Hug both knees to your chest. Curl your body up into a small ball. Rock gently from side to side 5 - 7 times each side. Lower your head to the bed, still holding your knees to your chest, take 3 - 5 deep breathes in and out. Gently, move your knees from side to side, giving a gentle wringing action to the back muscles. Lower your feet back to the bed and slowly straighten your legs on the bed.

7. After all that stretching, sit quietly for a few minutes, enjoying the stillness of your breath and the calmness of your mind.

Try and practice this simple yoga exercise sequence everyday for at least a week. If you like it and you want to try other yoga postures, email me and let me know what you require and I will happily supply you with a yoga schedule. Exhale and have a Happy Day

Yoga Basics

The word yoga originates from Sanskrit, which is an ancient language from India. It means union particularly of the body, spirit and mind. The yoga that we know today is what is termed as asana, which pertains to postures and poses.

Asana is just one of the eight types of yoga. It is more physical compared to the other types of yoga, which are more directed towards the development of mental and spiritual aspect of an individual. At present the word yoga is used synonymously with asana.

Many people viewed yoga as a type of stretching exercise. Although there is some truth to it but the stretching involved in yoga are designed to create a sense of balance that does not only strengthen the body but makes it flexible. This explains why people who are into yoga can bend their body in an amazing way, makes you think whether they still have bones or not.

There are different poses involved in yoga and each of these provides physical benefits. Yoga poses especially for those who are not into this type of activity will think that it's hard work. Well not to dishearten you there are also simple poses, which are easy to do. The complex poses that you see are performed by those who have perfected the basic and have gained the needed flexibility for higher forms of yoga poses.

Basic Yoga Poses
If you want to try some basic yoga stances just to see whether you can do it or not, then the sun salutation is the way to go. It is easy to follow and very relaxing. Since this is your first time make sure that you focus on your breathing and then follow the following procedures one at a time carefully and slowly:

1. Stand with your feet together and your hand in a prayer like position placed in front of your chest.

2. While breathing in, try to arch your back very slowly while extending your arms over your head and slowly stretching your spine.

3. Breathe out while you bend over and try reaching your toes if you can. However if you cant then its okay, just do not overexert or else you will just injure your back in the process.

Yoga has its huge benefits, and this is the reason why many people move out of the gym to practice Yoga at their homes and in special locations. If you would like to know more about Yoga and fitness, yoga accessories buying tips and much more visit the Yoga Tips site at http://yoga.zupatips.com

Yoga in India

Yoga is the scientific term which aims at coalescing all aspects of individual body - the mind, body and spirit in order to achieve the state or enlightenment and oneness with the universe. Based on the India metaphysical beliefs, the perniciousness of Yoga techniques and practices can be traced back to over 5,000 years ago.

It finds mention in the oldest sacred text, the Rig Veda. Derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj' it means oneness or unity. Yoga was earlier associated with religion and was considered as the path to attain our highest potential and a state of bonding with the Divine. However with the stress factor plunging high in today's day, the practice of Yoga has been widely accepted as the answer to the complexities.

In the western countries it is normally though of as the 'Hatha Yoga' or as form of exercise. Hath Yoga gives special emphasis on asanas or poses. The regular practice of Yoga and its various asanas makes the body strong and healthy.

It is the spiritual science of self realization and its doctrines are universal that can be incorporated within any belief system. The practitioner of this this unique science is called 'Yogi' (male form) and 'Yogini' (female form). In order to practice this art one has to undergo through a series of specific poses by controlling his/her breathing.

There are different types of Yoga :
Ashtanga yoga : Ashtanga yoga is the physically demanding fast flowing workout which helps to build strength, flexibility and concentration.

Bikram Yoga : It is the dynamic style of Yoga which is usually practiced in room that may be heated to more than 100 Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius).

Kundalini Yoga : Kundalini Yoga focuses on the awakening the life energy using postures, breathing and meditation.

Iyengar Yoga : It is one of the Hatha Yoga style which focuses on precise alliance of poses for the fitness conscious.

Yoga Can Help You Free Your Mind

Many of us can visualize the clutter that may be present in our mind. It is likely to be worse than your desk or other place where you allow things to pile up. Yoga is an effective form of alternative medicine that can help you to organize that clutter. Imagine having a filing system for what you need to work on, what you can get rid of, and what is just there in your mind!

It would certainly help you to concentrate on important tasks more. Constant interruptions seem to be a common part of life. Yet they can make it hard to make good decisions. In return, that can lead to even more stress building up for us than we already have to deal with.

Don't underestimate the power of yoga as it has been linked to many improvements for people. Those with some types of mental health disorders often benefit because their overall mood improves. Fighting cancer can be done with yoga too because a good mindset is important to fight it as well as other types of medical concerns.

Yoga has also been found to be effective for weight loss. This is because it makes your bones and your muscles stronger. There are plenty of types of stretches that you can do that will help to tone and firm up your body. That is a common concern for those losing weight. Yoga in addition to eating right and getting other forms of exercise can assist you with getting the body you want.

By removing the clutter from your mind, you will find you feel better too. The burden of stress can affect us physically as well as mentally. Do you feel out of energy all the time? Do you wake up tired and groggy even though you did spend plenty of time in bed last night? Do you find yourself being irritated at small things due to the number of them that continue to pile up?

If so, adding yoga to your daily routine can help you feel much better. Before you say that sounds great but you just don't have the time, you need to make time. Yoga can be something you commit periods of time to, even 15 or 30 minutes a day. All of us owe that amount of time to ourselves. You may toss and turn in bed for that amount of time each night. Why not use it for yoga and then sleep better afterwards?

To get the most out of yoga you do need to practice it often. At first you may find it difficult to concentrate but that will get easier the more you do it. Try to put at least two hours between meals and yoga sessions as well. Drink lots of water after you complete each session as well to help stay hydrated and to naturally remove various types of toxins from your body.

While yoga is low impact, there are some moves that can be complex. Start out with the basics. As your level of skill improves you can work up to more complicated moves. You can end up injuring yourself if you don't learn them properly. It is a good idea to take a yoga class for beginners so that you can get the most out of the process.

Yoga Exercise - How I Changed From Feeling So Tired to Feeling Good

It's past my bedtime I'm feeling so tired; and I've decided to use some yoga exercises and techniques to change to a feeling good state so I can complete this article. I also want to finish the writing in the shortest time ever. My strategy is:

1. Energize with stronger breathing
2. Posture - sit well to increase alertness
3. Self Talk - remind myself that it is possible
4. Accept Imperfections - go easy on me

Breathing - I chose a technique called Kapalabhati which means shining skull. It's a powerful exhalation and a passive inhalation, that kind of sounds like a choo-choo train. This technique can be practiced for 5 minutes. I practice for just 10 seconds with a steady gentle rhythm. It is enough. I feel more alive instantly. This is a cleansing breath and good to do if you feel you are getting a cold. I've practiced another round of ten powerful exhalations and will probably do another before the article is finished.

Posture - I've planted both feet on the ground, and am sitting up tall. I feel strong. My body feels solid. There's a bit of discomfort at my left shoulder blade, so I twist a bit to see if it would make a difference. The discomfort is planning on staying. Perhaps a soak in the tub will help. I catch myself crossing ankles and uncross them. When both feet are firmly on the ground, there's an increase of mental and physical stability and determination.

Self Talk - With the intention set to encourage myself, the mind got the message and is cooperating. Focus is here and I'm moving through the article with great ease. I appreciate that the mind is staying on track at this time. The technique of setting the intention is a powerful one. I was quite clear and determined that it is possible to write quickly, and somehow must have believed that my goal could be achieved even more than I realized. I've been wanting to increase my efficiency for a few days now.

Accept Imperfections - There's an energy sapper - always wanting perfection. Precious time and energy spent making sure every 'i' has a dot and every 't' crossed. I did it again. Went back to the top and made an improvement, only one, then I caught myself. Deep breaths. It takes time to change habits. I accept this imperfection - that I want the article to be clearer and clearer. Of course, it can always be better. I love and accept myself as I am, and am learning to let go of the desire to be perfect.

There, it's done. I am still alert. My feet are crossed. I uncross them. My posture is upright. My mind is still. Time for bed. The discomfort in my shoulder blade is practically gone.

May you learn ways to move from a feeling so tired state to a feeling good state, whether through yoga exercises or some other form of self care.

Asthma Treatment - Three Ways to Relief

Listen: many of us who have asthma know what it's like to feel the panic of an attack. They're terrible feelings of helplessness and disturbing fear. It's not pretty at all. There is hope, though. You can get relief! You can use these techniques to help alleviate your asthma symptoms, and also increase your energy level. These are great ways to help strengthen your lungs and your mind...

Asthma Treatment - Three Ways to Relieve Your Asthma

There are many ways to treat your asthma; and the following three tricks are in no way the only ways to give you entire relief from your asthma. However, they have been known to be very helpful to thousands of people, like you and me, who suffer from asthma and need our lungs to be stronger.

Yoga

Yoga is a great way to just relax, gain great flexibility, and also strengthen your lungs. Since the majority of yoga is centered around controlling the mind and body, it can be a great help in controlling the emotional asthma attack triggers. Even if you do not want to partake in the spiritual aspect of it, Yoga is a great physical activity that will strengthen your lungs.

Swimming

Many people believe that since asthmatics have a difficulty breathing, that they should stay away from physical activity. This is not true at all! In fact, exercise is a great way to strengthen the lungs and stave off attacks. When swimming, however, keep in mind that the chlorine in many pools can trigger an attack.

Acupuncture

Many people are skittish at the thought of acupuncture; however, they shouldn't be! It has been found to be very beneficial; especially in those with asthma. Make sure, however, you get a licensed acupuncturist.

Growing up, I had asthma, and bad. It began to rule my life! I couldn't run, I couldn't swim, I couldn't do anything that I wanted!

If you're in the same boat I was, or feel like you could be getting to that point, you need to go to my "Asthma Control" blog.

There, I teach you methods, tips, and tricks to help you control your asthma so that you can go out, and take on the world in the way you were meant to: freely.

Yoga Bolsters

Being new to the practice of Yoga, it is always a good idea to give your body an opportunity to adapt to unusual positions that one has to go through. Always remember not to push your body beyond what it is capable of. The art and practice of Yoga was never intended to harm the practitioner's body in any way. Without slowly adapting to the processes, one might end up pulling muscles, stretching ligaments, tendons, or even ripping them, though the latter of the four is extremely rare.

One such helpful item that some advanced practitioner's even use is that of the Yoga bolster. A bolster is a cotton-filled cushion that comes in a variety of sizes and shapes. It is generally either round or square, round being the most common. The purpose of the bolster is diverse. However, it is mostly utilized as a cushion for the head, neck, or lower back. When considering the human posture, the head is the least likely use.

When performing Yoga, the practitioner generally does so on a hard surface, such as a hardwood floor, linoleum, or similar unyielding surface. It does not denote weakness to utilize cushions to make it less painful. The words Yoga and pain were never meant to be interrelated in any way.

When deciding upon the best type of Bolster for you, the best tactic to utilize is a simple one. Just lie down flat on whatever surface that you will be practicing Yoga on. Lie there until you start to relax. Let your body naturally sink into the floor. Now, take close note of what part of your body is not touching the bare floor once you are totally within a state of relaxation. This is your body taking its natural form. Wherever these points are that aren't in contact with the floor is where you will get the most benefit from a bolster.

As for where to get a bolster, you can do a simple internet search of the words "Yoga Bolster" and you will literally find hundreds of thousands of results. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a bolster is that you generally get what you pay for. If you purchase the cheap generic brand, you will get cheap and generic results. It is best to pay a little more for something that will last longer and be more effective.

Another thing to be wary of are Yoga bolsters that are filled with anything but real cotton. Other fillers that are often used instead will eventually begin to lose their shape and become virtually useless.

Yoga is a great way to strengthen your mind and body and get in shape as well as a great way to unwind after a long day. We have yoga music, mats, clothes, pants, videos and journals as well as information on the different types, postures and the history of yoga. Living Yoga - Respect Thyself

Respect emerges from within. The wanton disrespect we sometimes show toward things and others is really just a manifestation of our lack of self-respect. When I do not respect myself for who I am, how can I respect you for who you are? When I don't feel worthy, I feel compelled to make you feel unworthy, or make you make me feel worthy. When I lack self-respect, I inevitably crave respect from others, becoming either the tyrant who commands people to look up to him, or the whining child who constantly complains that he is not getting enough attention.

How do we develop self-respect?

Self-respect grows by striving to do all that we explore when we live our Yoga: graciously living our dharma with feeling, attentively manifesting the wisdom that waits within, and cheerfully living with integrity in response to the truth of each moment. Even if we don't often succeed, we being to value our life and realize we are worthy of our own respect.

Cultivating self-respect is largely internal work, a process of exploring and transforming our lack of respect. We must look inside ourselves and honestly search for what is unkind and rude. We then must ask: Why do I feel unworthy enough to be unkind, disrespected enough to be rude? How can I transform these feelings rather than merely suppress them? By asking such questions sincerely, and then humbly listening to our own intuition, we will be guided toward transformation.

Though the work of building self-respect is from the inside out, it is also from the outside in. As we find ways to respect other people and things, we simultaneously find more ways of respecting our own selves.

As we learn to respect who we are, others will instinctively respect us. However, the moment we become egoistic, their respect will fade, for they will only see the ego working overtime. Self-respect is naturally imbued with humility.

Respecting one's self, then, is not the same as thinking of oneself first. Respect for self should not be confused with self-serving hedonism and careless self absorption --- "doing whatever I want to do." That is bondage disguised as freedom. Respect is actually the opposite. When I am respectful, I am present and fully aware of what effect I am having on others. With such awareness, we cannot have ego, and vice versa. It is only when we don't know our true selves that the demands or our ego override sensitivity toward others. One who doesn't know himself thinks of himself; one who truly knows himself thinks of everyone. It takes enormous self-respect to humbly and genuinely bow before another.

Yoga - Contraindications For Inversions

As we practice yoga poses we want to do also inversions. Most common inversions are the Headstand and the Shoulderstand. But there are not only those two poses which are the inverted asanas. Any posture in which the head is below the heart is called an inversion. Whether you stand on your head, bend forward or bend back, if your head is below your heart, you are performing an inversion. This also means that Downward Facing Dog, Standing Forward Bend and Fish pose are also inversions; although those poses are mild in comparison to a Headstand. The Camel pose can also be an inversion if you bend back far enough. Remember - inversions are not for everyone! Your intentions should be clear when you perform any yoga posture. If the risks may outweigh the benefits there is no logical reason why you should practice any pose which can harm you.

Contraindications for practicing inversions:

If you have any of the following conditions, please omit inversions or work with a qualified and experienced teacher who will never put you at risk and tried to modify your practice. Anyone who has high blood pressure, heart related problems, eye issues, neck problems, epilepsy, previous stroke or sinus problems should never practice Headstand or Shoulderstand, and omit other mild inversions or be adjusted by the yoga teacher.

During any stage of pregnancy yoga should be practiced in a prenatal yoga classes specifically designed for that purpose or privately with a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher. During menstruation Headstand and Shoulderstand preferably should be omitted and other milder inversions should not be hold for long, but because of the controversy about the inversions during menstruation it is your personal choice. Let your body guide you.

If you are a yoga teacher explain to your students why the inversions can be dangerous for them if they have any of the condition mentioned earlier. Why not stand on your head when you have pain in your neck or neck injury? What first thing will come to your mind as you there? Ouch ... my neck! Can my small neck carry my whole weight as I am inverted?

Most students put lots of weight on their head and neck instead of shoulders. Use your common sense and listen to your body. Intuition will never let you down. Why omit headstand if I have high blood pressure? Because the danger is when your blood pressure increase from 100/60 mm Hg while standing on your feet to 150/110 mm Hg or even higher when you go for headstand.

Discover Your Kundalini

Exploring the Kundalini requires the student to trust in the challenging development of awakening their own personal dormant energy. The benefits and results are very satisfying to the individual who is able to unlock this potential power.

The results from uniting with your Kundalini are the comfort and relaxation for your mind, body and spirit. Visualize that there is a coiled ball of energy at the base of your spine that is ready and waiting to explode in order to share its wonderful gift with the world. It is not able to move because barriers are in its way. These are barriers that you have consciously or unconsciously have put up. Often times this is how Kundalini practitioners visualize this trapped energy that is waiting to be released.

Each body reacts differently with awakening this energy - both positive and negative. The best way to study Kundalini is with a qualified, experienced teacher. With proper training and focused study you will ensure the acquisition of the positive effects of this specialized technique.

A good place to start is with Hatha yoga and Pranayama because this type of yoga practice primarily focuses on breath and breathing techniques, which is the epitome for release such energetic flow. Through these means, along with a daily spiritual study that also includes meditation, the flow of energy will begin to unlock the seven chakras within the body.

Heightening Kundalini will access the chakras which can then contribute to the overall well-being of your nervous system. One of the results of this alignment is the overall feeling of increased stamina and energy.

When one experiences a true Kundalini awakening it has often been thought of as an enlightened moment of pure indefinite creativity, or as the chance to meditate on something that is bigger than ourselves, our surroundings, and our daily concerns.

Ultimately, it will lead you to have more confidence and have more happiness in living life from day to day.

Yoga in 2009 - It's Time For a Change

Yoga makes us realize that one person can change people for the best. Continued small changes can add up to major changes. The beginning of change, in any culture or society, starts within the thoughts of one or more people.

At the beginning of each year, we evaluate the past, plan for the future, and move forward with optimism. This year on January 1, 2009, the people of the world open their eyes with a vision of the future. We have choices and many decisions for 2009, but commitment is always the key to making changes.

It is so easy to lack commitment in relationships, work, and lifestyle changes. Most New Year's resolutions lack sincerity or commitment. The reason is because we have to believe a resolution is possible.

Barack Obama's campaign slogan, "Change you can believe in," comes to mind. When going up a flight of stairs, you are better off keeping track of each step up a stair case than to focus on arriving at the top step. If we do not focus on each step, the risk of falling down the stair case is much greater.

This attention to detail is a lesson we learn from life. If you want to make positive changes, write your goal down, but underneath the goal you should note each step that is required for you to accomplish your ultimate goal. This planning process is worth every minute or hour you invest.

No matter what form of Yoga you practice, there are bench marks and mile stones along your journey. Life is the same way, because small steps of achievement are the highway toward success. Some Yogis will criticize self-improvement, goal setting, and success enhancement techniques.

Consider this: If each of us gave up on the search for success, would we be helping our families or the world? Classic Yoga texts required a Yogi with a goal. The opposite of achieving is failing and quitting. Do we want to endorse failing and quitting? Yoga would not be the system it is today, if all of its practitioners were against self-improvement.

Therefore, see Yoga for what it is. Yoga is the mother of all self-improvement systems. Yoga is also the mother of all health maintenance systems. The first requirement, on the path toward success, is to see endless possibilities and reality at the same time. This is why Yoga students, of all kinds, take small, but sure, steps forward.

What is Yoga and Why Does it Hurt So Much?

Well, a few months ago I decided to try Yoga. I wanted several things: a way to relax, greater flexibility, and generally, a more healthy lifestyle. Now, I'm not a kid anymore and haven't been one for a long time! I was probably about twenty pounds overweight but not in real bad condition. I used to run a lot and played a lot of handball. About ten years ago my back and knees told me that they didn't want to do that anymore, so I've been walking two miles about six times a week.

Anyway, after looking around for a bit, I finally found a Yoga studio about ten minutes from my home. I went over there one Saturday afternoon and just watched a Yoga class.
I said to me, "Well, that doesn't look too difficult - I think I'll give it a shot!" So I signed up for a course that met every Wednesday evening for an hour. I bought a blue rubber Yoga mat and figured that I was ready to go. I wondered if I should get some Yoga accessories like straps, a mat bag, my own emergency medical response team! I decided to hold down the cost for now until I decided if I really want to get deeply into Yoga.

The following Wednesday evening I arrived early and discovered that a more advanced class was in progress, so I just sat and watched them for a while. I thought that I might be able to do some of those poses, but not be able to undo them! Well, we got started. We had a really nice, very capable instructor who had been doing Yoga for over twenty years.

Things were easy at first but, as life usually is, kept getting harder and harder. Now I had been having trouble with my left knee for some time - on occasion it would just buckle. I fell a couple times and almost did many times. This made getting into (and out of) some positions almost impossible without substantial pain.

I stayed for the entire course and even took the next one. It became obvious, however, that I would have to get the knee fixed before going any farther. Well, I finally did (that's another story) and am now thinking seriously about going back to Yoga. I did enjoy the classes so may be I'll go back. I'll let you know what happens later.

Yoga is an ancient science of the coordination and purification of the body and mind to synchronize the human system to its deepest level. Yoga has been practiced since ages to secure purity of mind, body and soul and the ultimate goal of yoga lies in the total harmony with the supreme power GOD.

What Yoga can Do?
Yoga as an intrinsic system of physical exercise exists on the holy land of India since times immemorial. It is the ultimate source of physical fitness as well as mental ecstasy as proved by modern science. Although its origin is ancient by nature, modern science has now accepted the benefits of yoga on body and mind.

Yoga is now being reintroduced and promoted in modern ways to reach each nook and corner of the world. In the stressful modern times, yoga comes as a pleasant respite and is believed to have the surest cures for man's physical as well as psychological ailments. How to Become a Yoga Instructor - Inner Vision

The call for us to teach Yoga often starts with a vision from within. This vision of becoming a Yoga teacher is not something that someone else told us to see. We have been systematically trained to ignore our intuition and trust outside resources. This makes focusing on what we internally visualize difficult.

As children, we are often taught to forget our dreams. As time passes, we are taught to be practical and logical. Sometimes, the result is a young adult who is cynical, at best, because of all the emphasis placed on past failures. Nothing will stifle innovation, and creativity, better than to focus on your past setbacks.

Internal focus on past failures becomes the mindset of pessimism. Luckily, you have control of your mind to influence it toward positive thoughts. If you know a group of people who exist in the "Dark Ages" of pessimism - you realize the difficulty in changing a collective mindset. You probably need a "breath of fresh air," as well.

With that said, do you really want to ignore your intuition? Do you want to abandon your dreams? Do you want to live a life that someone else has demanded you live? There is a reasonable compromise between what is logical and what you envision.

If you want to become a Yoga teacher, it does not have to be difficult. You can be a provider at home and participate in a self-paced correspondence course at the same time. Some of these training programs are designed with unlimited Email and telephone support. In fact, you are not required to leave home with some online Yoga teacher training courses.

What about job changes? If you currently have a job that has great benefits and it pays well, you can stay with your employer while teaching Yoga as a part-time instructor. Life can be taken in gradual steps, with much less financial risk to you or your family.

As a part-time Yoga teacher, you can enjoy the best of life. You can see where this journey will guide you. At some point, in the future, you might decide to visit an on-site intensive, a seminar, teach full-time, or become a registered Yoga teacher. All of these goals are fine, but life does not happen in an instant.

It is true that we are programmed to think everything must take place in "the blink of an eye." Yet, we have a life to live every day. Sometimes, our dreams are put on hold, but we can study, improve, and practice, each day. The journey to teach Yoga classes starts with study toward certification. The path of teaching Yoga has many steps. Remember: A teacher is a student for life.

Yoga Vacation in Soglio, Switzerland

The articles featured on "Travel for a small planet," in the April issue of Ode didn't say anything about a yoga vacation in Switzerland, but they should have. For the fourth year in a row I'm travelling to Soglio, Switzerland for an amazing adventure centered around yoga and hiking in the mountains.

This retreat is so close to the ideal holiday described in Ode. It's economical; it's in a place that never swayed from being eco, organic, green and spectacularly beautiful. It features fresh, incredibly fresh clean water and air. In fact, in Soglio sound actually interrupts silence - that of cow, goat, sheep and church bells echoing through the valley. The inexpensive and mostly Italian cuisine never tasted as good.

Soglio is in a remote, off the beaten path village, with next to no traffic, in the Engadine, at the Swiss Italian border. Local residents are farmers who take their wisdom - not from the media or commercially driven trends - but from Mother earth. Always have, which is why they continue to use ancient farming techniques - despite (being Swiss) having all the latest modern technology at their finger-tips. And it's why they look so gosh-darn healthy.

These people are yogis in the truest sense - without even knowing it. They and their children before them have not eaten anything resembling junk or preservatives or steroids or plastic or anything but fresh, organic, locally grown and prepared. And, my-oh-my, does it show. These are the most gorgeous sturdy people you'll see anywhere.

The people of Soglio are natural and of the earth and because of it, they inspire the yoga vacationers to soak up all we can during our 1 week retreat. We are to be in the now, in the present - in the AAAOOOMMM, in order to re-create the magic of this place, and not back home, sitting at work in windowless cubicles or in fume infested traffic jams.

The cornerstones of yoga are "proper exercise, proper relaxation, proper breathing, proper diet, and positive thinking and meditation." The people of Soglio don't need a neighborhood yoga center or ashram to teach these concepts because they learned them in the womb. And from their parents, and their parents before them - dating all the way back to when my sweet husband's family, the de Salis' carried the stone (by donkey) up the side of the mountain to build this haven of a place. Hundreds of years ago they left, looking for a better life in the city.

That's how I found this most beautiful place for a yoga vacation. It took me dragging my husband back by the arm into the splendor of this place, for him to actually see and feel the magnificence of what is there. Now, THAT is Yoga. Not the dragging by the arms bit, but the waking up enough to let go enough to actually feel, see and appreciate what IS there - along with waking up to what is actually inside of oneself. It's a wower...an artists' paradise, because of the unique, one-of-a-kind lighting. Soglio is an ashram, because of choices the locals have made generation after generation.

It is with such humble gratitude and love, that I say thank you to these people who epitomize generosity and who welcome Rupert and me with our growing "family" of yogis into the warmth of their expanded embrace.

Jody Tull teaches sivananda yoga in Ann Arbor, MI. She holds an annual yoga retreat in Soglio, Switzerland. To learn more about this rejuvenating experience or to join her get the Soglio Yoga Retreat report at her blog JodyTull.com.

Posture Tips For Chronic Lower Back Pain

The backbone is the most important bone structure in human body. Its main functions are to house and protect the spinal cord, which is the main neural link between brain and other parts of the body. It also keeps the arms through shoulder girdle; keeps the legs through pelvic girdle; keeps the ribs that protect important organs; and keeps the skull in its place. It also provides a structural platform for attachment of tendons, tissues, ligaments, bones and muscles so as to make the body movement possible.

Postural imbalances are the main causes of backache. If the pelvic balance is maintained, backbone aligns itself naturally and there is no scope for any back related pain.

Posture tips for chronic lower back pain:

Start doing warmup exercises for at least 15 to 20 minutes before starting the actual exercises. When your body becomes warm, the muscle becomes flexible, as the muscle viscosity gets decreased. This is the ideal situation for starting regular exercises.

Avoid slouching whether you are standing or sitting. When you slouch, your pelvic balance is lost which in turn affects the vertebral positioning.

While working, whether in office or at home, see that the table is of a comfortable height. You should be able to sit straight and your feet should be firmly planted on the floor.

Always wear a comfortable low-heeled shoe. This is very important as high heels can alter the way you walk and this would put undue stress on your back, which in turn would lead to back related problems.

Sit in the chair straight, and keep the back supported by the backrest. Leave no gaps between your lower back and the chair backrest.

While sleeping try as far as practicable to sleep on your sides. A soft pillow between your knees will do a lot of good.

Never lift heavy objects.

Do not bend to remove anything from the floor. Go down on one knee, pick up, straighten, and resume your standing position.

If you follow the above mentioned tips you could get relief from chronic back pain.
