Yoga is the scientific term which aims at coalescing all aspects of individual body - the mind, body and spirit in order to achieve the state or enlightenment and oneness with the universe. Based on the India metaphysical beliefs, the perniciousness of Yoga techniques and practices can be traced back to over 5,000 years ago.
It finds mention in the oldest sacred text, the Rig Veda. Derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj' it means oneness or unity. Yoga was earlier associated with religion and was considered as the path to attain our highest potential and a state of bonding with the Divine. However with the stress factor plunging high in today's day, the practice of Yoga has been widely accepted as the answer to the complexities.
In the western countries it is normally though of as the 'Hatha Yoga' or as form of exercise. Hath Yoga gives special emphasis on asanas or poses. The regular practice of Yoga and its various asanas makes the body strong and healthy.
It is the spiritual science of self realization and its doctrines are universal that can be incorporated within any belief system. The practitioner of this this unique science is called 'Yogi' (male form) and 'Yogini' (female form). In order to practice this art one has to undergo through a series of specific poses by controlling his/her breathing.
There are different types of Yoga :
Ashtanga yoga : Ashtanga yoga is the physically demanding fast flowing workout which helps to build strength, flexibility and concentration.
Bikram Yoga : It is the dynamic style of Yoga which is usually practiced in room that may be heated to more than 100 Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius).
Kundalini Yoga : Kundalini Yoga focuses on the awakening the life energy using postures, breathing and meditation.
Iyengar Yoga : It is one of the Hatha Yoga style which focuses on precise alliance of poses for the fitness conscious.
