As it has been proven that eating disorders can be just as mentally debilitating as physically. It is important to remember the importance of meditation. Meditation can help to reduce any negative thoughts or feelings you may have. While general meditation may give you a less-obvious result (usually your at-home meditation sessions) you can combine them with a more specifically targeted meditation practice. Which has been proven to be highly effective.
Remember when practicing yoga, most of the poses will work better when all exterior elements are left aside. Giving you the ability to concentrate and focus on the inner aspects of yourself, body mind and soul. Pay particular attention to your breathing and any inner sensations that you feel. Which will help to guide you to the state of calmness and elevate the awareness of ones self. This state will allow you to explore new concepts in your life, past the eating disorder. Enabling you to achieve goals that may have proved too difficult or problematic in the past.
Take care in being aware of your problems. Showing a strong and constant desire to change is the key to reducing the effects of these illnesses. Many doctors will push for an early adoption of a yoga practice. Which will help to make the patient more aware of the problem that they are having within their body and mind. Often leading to seeing progress much sooner, than trying to tread the long road alone.
Despite the ability to be great for everyone, including those who have encountered this difficult illness. It is important to remember that yoga is best used for prevention, rather than treatment. Yoga has a higher likelihood of success before bulimia or anorexia has taken full hold on someone's body. As with many illnesses, the people who suffer from them will go through a denial stage. Which can often times aggravate the condition, making it much harder for yoga to help them through their time of need. Simply because prevention is easier than the elimination of an illness from it's full onset. However, your doctor may still suggest yoga throughout the treatment process of severe eating disorders that have taken full-hold.
It is important to remember that yoga isn't a cure in of itself. Instead should be used as a tool to help with any medical attention you might be receiving. It is a means of gaining back what you might have lost mentally and physically.
The three popular types of yoga you may have heard of are hatha yoga, power yoga and bikram yoga. Hatha yoga is the style of yoga most practiced today. It is what you will think of when you think of yoga in general. Power yoga is a more aerobic-style yoga, with an emphasis on cardio. Bikram yoga is a style of yoga performed in a heated room to accelerate detoxification. Universal Yoga sells everything you need to practice these and other forms of yoga, pilates and meditation including cropped yoga pants, yoga clothes, workout clothing, meditation cushions, yoga bags, uplifting apparel, spiritual jewelry, and yoga DVDs.
